Christmas is a great time to have parties and get-togethers with your friends and family. Unfortunately, one of the potential side effects of a really exciting party can be some unexpected spills and stains on the carpet. Here are some common carpet spills and stains, with some tips on how to remove them from your carpet.
Red wine
Red wine is a common item to spill and the combination of a vivid colour and strong smell means this spill will definitely need cleaning up. If you get to a red wine spill early you can try blotting the spill with paper towels, and after most of the liquid is gone you can use soda water to try and remove the wine. If you don't find the stain until the next morning it can be a little trickier to get the stain moving. You can try creating a mix of 2 cups of warm water, with one teaspoon each of white vinegar and dishwashing liquid to get a dried wine stain moving.
Cola
Cola is relatively easy to remove if you catch it when dry, but the vivid colour can make it liable to stain a lighter colour carpet. Make sure to get as much of the spill out by dabbing with soda water, then leave it to dry as the staining can look worse when it's wet. If it's still noticeable the next day you can try using a spot cleaner from the supermarket to remove the remaining stain.
Vomit
While no-one plans to throw up, it can be a consequence if someone has a little too much 'fun' at their Christmas party. Again, removing the majority of the vomit whilst still wet is a help and you can use a diluted solution of dishwashing liquid to remove any soaked-in material. One of the issues with biological-based spills is that they can often retain some odour, so if you find there is a lingering smell the next day, you can try placing a generous heap of baking soda over the area for a few hours to absorb the smell, then vacuuming the baking powder away.
If you have tried to remove your party stains on your carpet but aren't having much luck, it might be time to call in the professional carpet cleaners. They can use their professional products, expertise and specialised equipment to remove even the toughest of carpet stains.
