There's plenty of evidence to suggest that introducing flowers to your home is good for you. They brighten up a room, lift your mood, and they can even improve the quality of the air inside your home! So which flowers work best in which rooms?
Entryway: Your hallway or entryway is the first thing people see when they walk into your home, so it's fun to make a solid impression the second they're through the door. You can start this process with a bunch of big, bold flowers; something eye-catching and confident that might not work alongside the decor in other rooms but will fit perfectly with the comparatively plain surroundings of a hall. Try birds of paradise or brightly-coloured lilies to get you started.
Kitchen: The kitchen is an essential part of the working of any home, but you're likely to find yourself doing things in there that aren't always intellectually stimulating: chopping, sweeping, washing up. Help combat this by filling your kitchen with bright, fun flowers that make everything seem a little more entertaining. Chrysanthemums or sunflowers are both great choices.
Living Room: We spend a lot of time in our living rooms, and they're often the rooms we decorate the most heavily. There's also a good chance you have at least one large screen in there, and a couple of bits of large furniture that dominate the space. This means you need flowers that work with the room rather than against it. The living room is the perfect spot for flowers cut down and floated in a bowl of water rather than stood on long stems in a vase. This simple yet eye-catching centrepiece can be adapted to match any decorating scheme. Roses are especially good for this, though you also might try orchids and carnations.
Bedroom: Your bedroom is intensely personal, and so the flowers you display in it should be also. This is the perfect place for deep, rich colours like roses, tulips and orchids or for flowers that remind you of your wedding bouquet or other special time. The other flowers in your home are a display piece, but these ones can be just for you.
Bathroom: Don't forget your bathroom when you're buying flowers for your home! Bathrooms can look a bit neglected, so a pretty vase of fresh blossoms is a great way to add a personal touch. Keep it simple, though—gypsophila, lilac and lily of the valley are all sweet, sedate choices.
