Prevent Sunburns with Shade Sails In Schools

by Edwin Johnston

Shade sails are devices that are used to create outdoor shade. Their technology is based on the sail of a ship. The shade sails are made of a flexible membrane that is tensioned between various anchor points. They come with an affordable price and setting them up is easy. These devices are usually provided in schools playgrounds and other public gathering places. They help in protecting individuals from prolonged exposure to sun's rays, which can result in sunburns or risk of skin cancer.

Functions of shade sails in schools

  • They are helpful in adding an exterior appeal on the learning institution. They come in different colors and you are free to pick one that matches the premise.
  • Provides a safe haven for school kids to play without fear of getting sunburns.
  • Provides shade for students who want to study outdoors.
  • They can be used for temporary purposes. E.g. during an event.

Installing a Shade Sail

Supposing you want to install a shade sail within the school – be it at a swimming pool, care facility, playground, among others, you will need to bring some factors into consideration:

  • Shape – make a decision on the type of shape that you deem appropriate.
  • Size – decide the amount of space that is going to be covered.
  • Location –find the appropriate place to erect the structure within your premise.

Prepare the shade sail

Take measurements that you will need to leave between corners – this will provide room for tensioning. Mark out where you would like to attach the sail. For the standalone posts, you will need to define where to dig holes. Ensure that the central part of the hole lines up with the sail corner. Treated timber posts or galvanized steel posts can be used.

Connect shade sail

Once you are done with preparing where to install the shade sail, the next thing is connecting the shade sail. It is essential to note that the shade sail will need some of the equipment to be devices for tensioning. If needed, a chain that is galvanized or stainless steel can be used for extending the shade sail corners to a fixing point.

Once all corners have been connected, adjust the tension in the fixing equipment. Stop tensioning once the shade sail becomes rigid and with little creases. Tension may be required regularly once creases start forming. This helps to reduce wind flap.

Supposing you find that installation is a bit of a challenge, you can always consult with the experts. They will be happy and willing to help you and at a reasonable fee.
